TARTAN!
The bossy social nazi that I am made a handful of colleagues donned tartan to the newsroom.
The nice, sporting, compliant colleagues they were, humored me and obliged. We took pictures and everything in the middle of work. LOL. B even went home to change to some tartan before he met us to hit the club.
So following from the previous post, I sorta have a soft spot for D, who is really Mich's friend. The guy's cute, wears nice Vans sneaks, knows how to have fun but is not such a moron that you can't have a serious conversation with.
Mich threw me a curveball before our night out. I was going to end work earlier than the rest of them so she said for me to "hook up with D first." D is not the kinda guy who makes me nervous or whatever, it's not one of those butterflies-in-the-tummy crush we are talking about. But it still felt kinda off initially because it's not like he's my direct friend, and I only knew him, what, two weeks ago or so?
Anyhoo, so we met up at Clarke Quay, hung back with my some of my ex-colleagues.
Had fun, had too much fun, lost track of time and soon enough, the rest were texting and calling to find out where we were and why were we not outside the club queuing. So we cabbed it and as we approached the posse, we were holding hands. It was somewhat a natural, comfortable thing to do.
I shall not even bother delving into what we did in the club. It was crazy as usual. The crew was awesome, great fun company. It was Pop anthem so we had Madonna, Arcade Fire, Michael Jackson etc playing so it was fun to dance to.
That done, we were all ravenous and wanted to have supper so we walked over to a coffee shop. D and I were walking in the front of the pack, like Siamese twin with our arms around each other's waist. I could hear teasing from the crew behind us but strangely it was like an ahh wtf moment, didn't even care. I'm very comfortable with him and he's not even gay.
While walking I asked him why he didn't hook up with Mich, they seemed so in sync, have similar interest, similar music taste, pretty balance level of intellect and the boy replied, "Thing is, I don't think I can hook up with a girl I can't carry."
"WHATTTT. Are you for real? That's your prerequisite?" I was appalled and maybe slightly amused.
"Ya, I can't carry Mich," he said matter-of-factly.
"Dude, that's so lame! So now we can't hook up. You can't carry me," I teased.
"What?"
"There's no way you can carry me," I repeated myself.
And before I could even blink, the boy lifted me up. Simply just carried me to the howl of laughters behind us and me screaming, "Okay okay okay!!! Point taken! Put me down! Put me down please! Pleaseeee!!!" Carried me as he crossed the road, all the way til we were right in front of the coffee shop.
It was err, I don't even know how to feel about that honestly.
In the cab home with B, he asked, "What was that about?"
"What?'
"You and D?" he probed.
"Nothing."
"You like him," he concluded.
"No I don't."
"Yes you do," he chuckled.
"B, I like him as much as I like you," I said very calmly.
"Uh huh."
"Look, if I like a guy, I wouldn't be making that much physical contact with him. I'll be crazy shy." I rationalized.
"Yaaa, you got a point. I'm a blubbering mess in front of blah blah blah...." And he went on.
So that was that.
Was that a lie he bought into? I don't know. I haven't quite figured it out yet.
Shrugs.

BUTTERED UPWe ended up at Butter Fact again last night, by no intentions of mine whatsoever.
It was just supposed to be a quiet downtime at Zsofi on a Friday night with the colleagues and the now inaugurated company of ours, originally a friend of Mich, D.
Then some ppl had a party itch they needed to scratch. I wasn't ready to party in my Converse chucks, but whatever.
When we got there, the club was full and they would not let anyone else in. But thanks to my amazing negotiation skills, I managed to convince the bigass bouncer to let us through. Haha.
Actually it was nothing la. I just hung back next to the bouncer, chatted a bit. Asked him if it was always this packed, never remembered them rejecting ppl, what a pity, we'd really got a reason to celebrate (we didn't) and open some bottles... Blah blah blah. Of course it helped being a girl.
It was fun. D was very cute, IS cute. Mich will like get convulsions if I say this about her friend. Haha.
After
a jug of red sangria,
a jug of sparkling white sangria,
a bottle of red wine,
a vodka cranberry,
a round of tequila shots,
2 glasses of champagne (who opened a Moet ah? what's the occasion?!),
a vodka lime,
another 2 glasses of champagne (no really, who opened the frikkin Moet?!),
I was so sloshed, B had to accompany me home. And he let me held on to his Nike water bottle throughout the cab journey to puke in cos I felt so nauseated. I didn't puke, so proud of myself.
And now that I got my senses back, what was he thinking offering his water bottle to contain my vomit?!! EW.
I did the grossest thing. I crashed in bed without showering. I've never done that in my life no matter how intoxicated I was. So now I got to bloody hell dump my sheets in the laundry. Such a bitch la changing sheets, hate it with a passion.
Why am I even up before noon? Oh ya, the nephew woke me up so I would put on Finding Nemo on the dvd for him.
And then I sat there all morning, next to him on the couch, all stoned out, muttering the names of the marine species whenever he nudged me all excitedly, when all I wanna do is die.
En route to self-destruction much? Think so.

MAC'D
Oh Maccers, how i heart thee. My jie texted me at work to tell me the seaweed shaker fries are back!
I YESSSS-ed super damn loud in the newsroom. Haha.
B (the one from work) was damn excited too cos his double fillet o fish is back so we made a blood pact to have Maccers for dinner tomorrow.
He was trying to coax me into giving my burger to him in exchange for his fries, which means he'll have two burgers and I'll have two fries.
Okay, I said.
"What u wanna eat two packs of fries, seriously?! Tiny lady are u for real?"
"What. I love my carbs cannot ah," I replied.
My dad picked me up after work cos I left my wallet at home.
Today was an all-around crappy day. I woke up with an aching thigh. I have no clue why when the last time I ran was Monday. Frikking Monday and it's not even 5K or anything. It's fucking painful and I'm slightly limping.
I got migraine. Then I forgot my wallet. Then I forgot to charge my cell phone so towards the evening it died completely.
Thank god the parents still like to baby me, so I got a ride home.
Back at home...

POPTART!This is so overdue but Poptart last Saturday was such a super duper fun clubbing experience. Me and the peeps are still to date raving about it. Like seriously, after that night, I figured why bother partying on any other night, dance to any other music, when there is Poptart.
Howie and I partied with another friend, Dan, my colleague Mich and some of her other quirky friends. I like it when new people we meet are fun and cool in that unpretentious and unaffected kinda way. We had one thing in common, our partialness to Indie.
Dan's bro literally had a party kit backpack equipped with bubbles, and paper crowns. So cute. The bubble boy blew bubbles all night long and had soap all over the dancefloor, making us skid when we moved. LOL.
The DJ's playlist was very very awesome. A mix of indie, rock, electro, retro pop. We are talking Kings of Leon, Blur, Peter Bjorn, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, Joy Formidable, even the Pipettes. I got damn excited when they played Pull Shapes la! So bimbo.
I'm gonna learn the moves so next time I go I can do the whole shebang. Mich is very supportive about this. She said, "You can practise and become the Pull Shapes designate dancer." Wooh!
I personally walked up to their DJ booth, flashed Howie's cell phone and requested for MGMT (my de-stressing music at work) which we bounced to, to end that popping fun night.
The rest went to grab post-clubbing food as usual, but since I had work the following day (yes, always, bad move but what do you do? *shrugs*), I cabbed it home with Howie.
This really posh taxi was first in line and in pure shamelessness, we peered our heads in and asked, "Uncle, this taxi got extra charge?"
When he said there'd be a five bucks extra charge, we immediately slammed back the door and hopped into the cab behind instead. Hahahaha. Khiam kanna to the max.
And we were obnoxiously wasted, talking damn loudly in the backseat. Got home at 5am.
Took a lot of ridiculous pictures. They are up on Howie's FB now. (Rae, go check them out!)
Times like this, I really do feel my defenses caving in. I'm a slight bit tempted to get my own account.
The moment will pass though.

F’S BACK, BITCHES
The trip was awesome. Nothing gets me more hyped than a long stretch of white sand and a mass of clear blue sea into the horizon. I’m home now with extra-extra-brown-bordering-on-black skin as evidence of the short beach haul.

The water was irresistible. Sigh.
Woke up, walked to the beach, and admired the sun rising into the sky.
Breakfast.
Swam by the beach.
Took the boat out into the sea where the corals and pretty fishes were.
Jumped into the ocean.
Snorkel.
Lunch.
Lay by the beach.
Swam if the water beckons.
Hopped on the 3pm boat and snorkeled again.
Showered, got cleaned up, got dressed.
Dinner.
Walked to the beach, tried to remain clean.
Watched the band performed.
Got souvenirs.
Explored the rest of the island with some locals.
Chilled out, gazed at the stars in the sky.
Crashed.

WANT CANDY?
Remember when you were little and your mom warned you not to follow strangers even if they were to offer you candies? I apparently don’t care THAT much for candies.
But there are other items I find more tempting. My mom wouldn’t be pleased.
We had super nice locals constantly wanting to show us cool stuff and I was the eager beaver who always followed, all wide-eyed, much to the fear and concern of my traveling partner. LOL.

On the boat ride to our resort. Great scenery.
“Want to see Nemo?”
“Yes! Where?”
“Come!”
And we followed him, swimming closely behind.
“Want to see big fish?”
“Yes!”
“Follow me!”
And we did.
“Want to see squids?”
“Want to see Christmas tree (a type of beautiful coral, not THE Christmas tree)?”
“Want to see eel?”
Each and every time, we followed. And each time, it proved true and we weren’t disappointed.
The one time though, it scared the hell out of my traveling buddy.
“Want to see shark?”
We didn’t have to reply verbally. I was already moving my strokes wider, harder and faster, determined to keep up. The locals swam like they belong in aqua-land.
We swam so far out, away from the rest of the snorkelers, and the water began to get cold. Suddenly it wasn’t clear anymore. It was slightly murky. We swam.
And then I saw it, a shark.
It. Was. So. Freaking. Amazing.
It was only about a meter long, a young but still menacing-looking one and it just glided by. So fast that if you were to blink, you’d missed it.
Traveling Bud got crept out, on many reasonable grounds - I geddit, we were away in the middle of the fucking ocean, there was a shark, she was having her period - and wanted to swim back. Very reluctantly I swam back to “safety”.
Everything down there was so pretty.
We didn’t stop exploring until the boatmen whistled that it was time to go. And the boat ride, every moment of it, I relished.

On the deck of the boat after a gratifying snorkeling session.
The nice boatmen let the two of us sit in the front of the deck with the wind in our faces and the gorgeous sun rays blanketing our skin.
THE ORACLE
Other times, Traveling Bud was apprehensive but got rewarded eventually when she relented to my persistent pressurizing.
It was after dinner, at dusk, and we were at the gift shop when we bumped into my favourite boatman. I said hello and he asked, “Want to see blue sand?”
“Ya right! Bluff!”
“No, really.”
We were (really reads: I was) ready to follow but it started to pour. So for awhile we were all stuck, seeking shelter at the gift shop.

The gift shop we were trapped at when it rained elephants & rhinos.
“It’ll simmer down by nine-thirty,” he said, looking at his watch.
So I turned to Traveling Bud, and under my breath said, “Okay if he’s right and the rain actually simmers when he says it will, next time right, if he says “Wanna see penguin?”, I would believe it lor.”
Traveling Bud winced, rolled her eyes and told me I would get myself into trouble someday.
Right on scheduled, as Favourite Boatman predicted, the rain died down. I was more convinced than ever, so off we trekked across a bridge to this other smaller beach.
It was dark and kinda scary and I said it out loud.
Traveling Bud muttered, “Oh, NOW you know? The things I do for you, F.”
STARS IN THE SAND
And there you have it, when u run your feet against the sand, specks of bright neon blue sand sparkled on the ground.
We were beyond mesmerized. It was so beautiful I could cry.
When we tried to hold it in our hands though, it disappeared!
Nature is a miracle.
CRYBABY
Last day. We were determined to get into our favourite boatman’s boat on our way back.
Even requested for it at the receptionist when we checked out. They wouldn’t let us.
As we trudged into this modern-ass ferry where all its passengers had to be indoors, I cried. And cried. And cried.
And I couldn’t stop crying for a whole fifteen minutes and then for the rest of the journey, I was trying not to cry.
Damn lame, I know.
One, I was upset I was leaving this paradise and work summons.
Two, I didn’t get to be on that rickety boat I like where I can sit on the deck, out in the open, with my feet dangling over the sea and have the waves periodically splashed at them.
And three and most importantly, I didn’t get to properly say thank you and goodbye to that favourite boatman of mine who showed us the best marine creatures, told us the best stories, led us to the twinkly stars in the sand and who made us laughed so hard over the lamest things. He even knew us by name.
FORGET ABOUT THE SUNSHINE WHEN IT’S GONE
In him, I see someone who does something he is so fiercely passionate about. Even though his pay probably doesn’t cover the snorkeling guide he provides with enthusiasm and his assistance in helping those who cannot swim but still want to snorkel, he still does it anyway, patiently.
He’s been a staff of the resort for over ten years, hired as a boatman, but he does much much more than that.
When we were strolling by the beach, him telling us tales, he mentioned how he has never eaten at that restaurant we guests have our meals at, ever. Somehow, that affected me deeply, I was left in awe and I admired his dedication even more.

I heart the beach deep deep. I would marry it if I could.
They say, forget about the sunshine when it’s gone but I will never forget this gorgeous island and its people. The sunburn I got now wouldn’t let me forget so easily either. Ha.
I’ll come back, for sure, and when I do, I’ll give Favourite Boatman, Uncle Halim, a proper hello.
(9:24 PM)
SO LAME
I was just welling up and dabbing at my eyes sporadically while packing for the trip cos the MJ memorial service was playing in the background.
RIP MJ. I feel so darn lucky to be in the presence of your music and that I can tell my children's children that I was there when you reigned supreme.
Yes yes, posthumous tribute. I'm a sucker, guilty as charge.
I mean sure, the guy's majorly effed up, no question. But then, who isn't? Yours truly gravitate towards peeps with issues anyway. *shrugs*
Anyhoo, I think I'm overpacking. I'm bringing three shades/sunnies whatchumaycallit.
THREE. (They are of different colored rims and they make me happy!) And I'm also THISSS close to bringing three books along until I was psycho-ed that one is sufficient.
I swear right now if someone's luggage fall into the sea, I would be able to have
BOTH of us properly AND tastefully clothed for the whole trip entirely. LOL.
C'ya guys next week.
Ciao!
(12:46 AM)
BLAST FROM THE PAST
I've been kinda insomniac lately, only sleeping past 4am earliest. So yes, explains all the waking up mid-noon. *sheepish*
Last night as I was just kinda lying there in bed, my thoughts drifted to some place my mind hasn't been to in awhile.
I don't know if it's cos I'm PMS-ing or just plain emo.
Quickie sidebar: Talking about PMS, I am all finicky cos chances are, if my calculations are right, my period will descend upon me during my short 3-day beach haul which is happening this Thursday!
I tell you, if the vagina decides to bleed when I'm there and I cannot do all the water sports I've planned to, I'll be hella pissed off at the universe for eternity. We have three free snorkeling sessions can!!! Grr.
Hold it unspermified ovary, just hold it! Don't break on me this week please please please! I still don't know how to use a tampon, so PLEASE!!!
Ahem, back to the main narrative. Thing is, I'm not working whole of this week. And the off days are not even deducted from my annual leave. These are just the OILs they owed me for all the late nights and Sundays I've worked. So all is awesome. I have time. And time I love with a passion.
So as I lay there in bed, I thought I was going to make my own quiche for lunch the next day. Like bake them MYSELF with no help from Betty Crocker or whatevs. And as I was trying to recall how to, of cos very vividly the picture of Loo patiently explaining the method to me back in the gross kitchen of our Hawai'i's apartment, came to view.
All of a sudden, it was like a ton of memories hit me like a bus. Not a train, not a car, a bus.
I saw everyone in my mind: Loo, whose dear life was cut short, the cheerleader Angela, my tech-geek buddy Kat, her crazy bunk mate Christy, the surfer chic who introduced me to weed Kory, gorgeous model-esque Mary Lynn and of course, Jam. Jam who I was so resistant against cos she occupied so much of my space but then grew to love as a sister.
I left them back in Hawai'i. All of them.
Then I was bawling. Hard. Sobbing mad kinda like MJ's fans on TV when they heard of the tragic news.
I realized I suck at bringing over people who's been significant in my past life stages with me to the present. I really suck at it. I didn't even make an effort to keep in touch. And I don't even hate these people, I love them! They were my family!
I tossed their AOL IM addresses because I don't see myself ever IM-ing on any other platform but MSN. I don't have Facebook or My Space. I am virtually non-existent to them the moment I board that plane home and it was all my doing. I take full responsibility!
So at 4.30am, I stumbled out of bed and started digging through my stash. And then I found it; Jam's number. And I texted her. No hesitations, nothing. It was just a
hey-roomie kinda thing, very brief. I wasn't even sure if her number's still the same.
She replied within seconds:
"F, is that really you?"And then I bawled again. I was just so overwhelmed with relief and sadness. (Okay, definitely the PMS. I can't be this much of a sap.)
We texted for a bit and I promised her I will email her first thing in the morning cos I know as we were talking my network company was damn happy cos they can bill me more this month and I'm not having any of that. And I did. I emailed her this morning.
Last I texted was a request for her to send my hi to her sister Jas, who lived with us for a while. I even flew to Maui and got on a roadtrip with Jas, so we were pretty tight. At that she replied:
"She says hiiiiiiiii back! (she's squealing!)"I slept with a smile on my face last night.
(11:38 PM)
BLURThe mission is to make a pilgrimage to Glastonbury even though I will reek like a dead corpse and would actually feel like one camping out there in the mud without a shower.
The logistics are beyond tricky and the money needed to be invested, a hefty.
But moi need need need to catch Blur before I die. Seriously.
In the meantime, I will just live through Rae's Hyde Park experience and be content with this super awesome t-shirt she got me from the gig.

Picture was emailed to me. Lol. How cute is that! Right out of Coffee & TV.
I ADORE IT.
Thank you Rae! Now come back home so I can have the tee (and your company both)!
